Kyoto Station luggage storage: check the location and collection time
Choose between lockers, staffed storage and delivery at Kyoto Station. Save the exact collection point, check access and bag restrictions, and plan your return before leaving for sightseeing.
1. Choose where you need the bag back
Decide your collection point before looking for an empty locker. If you are returning to Kyoto Station for a train, storage there may fit your route. If you will finish the day elsewhere, check the return journey before committing.
Kyoto Station Building's official FAQ links separately to lockers and Crosta Kyoto. These are different services. Crosta's temporary-storage instructions say to collect from the same branch where you deposited the bag. Hotel delivery moves the bag instead; do not select it when you need station collection without checking the destination.
Our planning check: write down the collection location, the latest time you can return and your onward train. Leave time to collect the bag before going to the platform.
2. Find the exact counter or locker bank
Crosta Kyoto's directions place it on B1, reached by going out of the conventional-line Central Gate and down the escalator in front. This is a location outside that gate, not a counter on a train platform. Check the current access guide from your own arrival point.
ASTY's separate baggage-room listing gives its location as the 1F East Area of ASTY ROAD. Its information page also lists a delivery counter inside the Shinkansen ticket gate. Do not confuse that delivery counter with the temporary-storage service.
Our check before depositing: save the facility name, floor, nearby exit and locker number or counter location. Confirm whether your route back requires passing ticket gates; ask station staff about ticket access before crossing them.
3. Check locker size, payment and a fallback
ASTY describes lockers at the Shinkansen Hachijo-guchi Exit, identified by flower designs, and says some accept transport IC cards. That does not establish the payment method of every locker. Its official information page links to an availability service; use that as a starting point, then check the actual locker before paying.
Our checks at the locker: does the whole bag fit without forcing the door, what is the displayed charge, when does another charging period begin, and when can you access the location again? Read how to reopen it and keep the required key, receipt, code or card secure.
If a suitable locker is unavailable, check a staffed counter's current acceptance conditions. Set a limit on how long you will search so that storage does not consume your sightseeing time. A directory entry or map is not a reserved space.
4. Separate opening hours, acceptance and collection
At the source check, Crosta Kyoto listed temporary storage from 08:00 to 20:00. ASTY's baggage-room listing showed temporary storage from 09:00 to 20:00. These are facility-specific published hours, not a confirmed slot for your visit. Recheck current notices before travelling.
Crosta's storage page says advance booking is unnecessary and bags are accepted at the counter. Its exclusion list includes valuables, precision electronics, fragile items, animals and bottled liquids. Ask about your bag's dimensions, weight and contents; fitting into a suitcase does not make an excluded item acceptable.
Our counter check: confirm the charge, last acceptance time, collection deadline and what happens if you return late. Keep the collection document and allow for a queue. Do not treat closing time as a sensible target arrival time.
5. Treat delivery as a separate plan
Crosta Kyoto's page separates temporary storage from delivery to participating accommodation and other stations. The delivery options have their own acceptance and collection times. ASTY also lists storage, hotel delivery and parcel shipping separately.
Our delivery check: confirm the exact destination, whether the accommodation accepts the service, the handover deadline and when the bag becomes available. Keep medication, travel documents and anything needed before delivery with you. Do not infer same-day arrival from the shop's opening hours.
If those details are unresolved, revise the sightseeing plan before handing over the bag. Check your onward transport's luggage conditions if you decide to carry it instead.

Before leaving your bag at Kyoto Station
Use this editorial checklist before walking away:
- I know whether I chose storage or delivery.
- I saved the exact floor, exit, counter or locker number.
- I checked ticket-gate access for collection.
- The bag and its contents meet this facility's conditions.
- I confirmed payment, collection time and late-return conditions.
- I kept the key, receipt, code or card needed for collection.
- My return journey leaves time to retrieve the bag before my train.
- I have a fallback if this location cannot accept the bag.
This checklist helps you prepare; it does not confirm live space or individual acceptance.
